AUVSI RoboSub
Competition
The AUVSI RoboSub Competition is a college-level competition for autonomous submarines.
It was started in 1998 with only four competitors. In 2013, Prairie View A&M University entered for
the first time. Since then, the competition has grown to include about thirty
teams, including many international entrants.
The TRANSDEC facility in San Diego, California has hosted the competition in recent
years. It is a naval testing pool, designed to be anechoic to simulate an
unbounded body of water.
In the competition, vehicles face challenges designed to simulate real-world tasks
for autonomous robots: passing through gates, identifying colors and shapes,
following pipelines, launching projectiles, and finding an acoustic
pinger. For more information about the tasks, please refer to the RoboSub Rules and
Mission.
